Atopia and Sensitive Skin

Sensitive skin is characterized by hyperreactive skin that triggers a series of unpleasant sensations -stinging, burning, pruritus, and tightness- in response to stimuli that normally should not provoke such reaction. Different intrinsic (age, hormonal status, etc.) and extrinsic (UV radiation, pollution, environmental temperature, chemicals, etc.) factors can contribute to sensitive skin syndrome. Topical products useful for the daily care of patients with sensitive skin should be formulated with non-irritating ingredients and should meet the following criteria:
  • restore the barrier function
  • reduce reactivity,
  • be safe for sensitive skin.
